Is it fair to ask, "What's your relationship with your news?"
Yes, yes it is.
Now you may think that you have a relationship with the journalists that you read, or watch, or listen to. But you don’t. Your relationship is with that journalist’s distributor.
What do I mean by that?
Over 50 years ago, A. J. Liebling explained it best. He said, “People everywhere confuse what they read in newspapers with news.” The New York Times, Fox News, and CNN aren’t the news. They distribute the content of journalists.
But that era is over. The world is digital now. We can have a direct connection to our journalists.
Distributors? We don’t need no stinkin’ distributors...
